Celebration of Teaching came about organically at Teachers College in response to students’ calls for less theoretical and more hands-on content based strategies directed toward serving English Language Learners (ELLs) in mainly PK-12 New York public school classrooms. During the CoT conference, innovative and exploratory practice is encouraged, as participants look for new ways to address age-old and new challenges faced by teachers and learners in school today. Our mission is one of cooperative practice, and this event provides participants with many opportunities to develop networks with peers at Teachers College and potential colleagues from the community, which will serve as helpful resource into the world of New York public schools.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide all prospective and practicing educators a safe place to demonstrate new ideas, share proven methods, and network with others in the field. We aim to provide an event where you can see it today and teach it tomorrow. The aim of this conference is to provide teachers with new techniques and insights to better serve and support English Language Learners (ELLs) across multiple content areas. We invite all departments and content teachers (pre-service and in-service) to present and/or attend the conference to equip and be equipped with strategies to support all ELLs in our classrooms.
Who We Are
We were founded in 2014 by graduate students in the TESOL/Applied Linguistics PK-12 Program of Teachers College, Columbia University. The first and second-year cohorts in the program continue to host this conference annually.
